Preparation
What data does a simulation study need?
The data depends on the scope of the study; these are the main inputs.
- Line data: number, names and lengths of lines; stations and dwell times
- Curves, gradients, speed limits and maximum operating speed
- Depots and their connections to the lines
- Operation rules: cars per train, headways, departure and arrival points, skipped stations
- Substations: number, location, equipment data, isolating sections; catenary / third-rail data
- Vehicle data: maximum speed, empty/full weight, acceleration, braking and jerk, tractive and braking effort–speed curves
